On this self healing journey I started a couple of months ago and with a lot of introspection, I realized that I am a highly sensitive person. When I watched part of the recent interview of Isha on Viceland, (please watch if you speak French), I discovered that only few people actually are like this and it’s a blessing to me to be honest. We read life, interpret, feel and see things that most people don’t even see, pay attention to or are conscious of! We are extremely emotional, sense things 10 times more than the usual. We are intense in everything we do, in Our relations, behaviours..
I started being conscious of it when I was a kid. When I used to go with my dad Friday’s to mosques give food to poor people or when I was visiting shelters and homeless people. I would be affected so much that it would take me days to get back to normal. Then when I grew up in subways I would always attract people that would come and talk to me about life and problems and sometimes just by looking at some peoples eyes I would be feeling Their pain a sadness.
To be honest, I would always think that it was a normal thing, that everyone was like me, feeling and being empathetic the samee way I was but I opened my eyes not long ago about it!!!!
Only between 15 to 20 percent of the population have this personality traits.
And we are very lonely people, we like our own space and time 🙂
Isha talks about it as the third eye and it could be true, but I need to digg more into it.
3 Things You Need to Know About Highly Sensitive People
Here are three simple, important facts everyone should know about highly sensitive people:
- Being highly sensitive is a normal trait. Approximately 15 to 20 percent of the population has the gene that makes them highly sensitive.
- High sensitivity is a real, research-based characteristic. In psychology, anyone who tests as having a very high degree of Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS), a personality trait, is considered highly sensitive. SPS is the trait of deeply processing experiences and stimuli, and a person with high SPS has differences at the neural level.
- Being highly sensitive comes with both advantages and drawbacks. Highly sensitive people tend to be empathetic, artistically creative, intuitive, and highly aware of the needs of others — so much so that many thrive in careers as therapists, counsellors, artists, musicians, and writers. But highly sensitive people also deal with overwhelm, exhaustion, and burnout, especially from “absorbing” or sensing all the emotional cues of the people around them. Loud, crowded, or visually busy spaces can also overwhelm sensitive people — any strong sensory input can.
Because of their need to spend time alone, highly sensitive people are often confused with introverts. The truth is that anyone can be highly sensitive, whether introverted, extroverted, or anywhere in between.
Don’t think I am crazy, but is there anyone like this in my friends here? Please share with me
much love,
Boo
